This album has been more than one year in the making. In the early Summer of 2011, I was working on various songs, never having one set goal, or genre, as it were. One moment I would be working on Doom metal, the next moment, I would be orchestrating, the next moment I would be putting together some thrash riffs. The first song I wrote for ADDWD was Walk the Earth. From that point, I knew I wanted to do a zombie apocalypse album. Other song ideas started converging upon this basic principle, and a year later, here is the result. From the start, there is an electronic element, with a driving kick drum pervasive throughout most of the album. I feel that just like our interpretation of the walking dead, they are relentless, some walk, some shamble, some haul ass.
Always a fan of zombie mythos and fiction, I cannot stay on one set form of the living dead. There are favorites among fans, and even heated discussions - Romero-esque shambling zombies, or the newer, Zack Snyder-esque running zombie; my preference is from the older zombie movies (I am a horror fundamentalist), but I like the new stuff, as well. Another facet is the origin of the zombie outbreak. Some like to envision a virus, a fast-spreading contagion that jumps from host to host, while others envision more supernatural means; both are themes I touch on in this album. The essence is the relentless pursuit the undead engage with the living. They do not stop, there is never any rest from them, just constant moving, trying to outlive them.
Here is A Dead Day Will Dawn, a conglomeration of electronic, death, black, and thrash metal, wrapped up with some ambient soundscapes and a sprinkling of samples. I hope you enjoy this newest release, and just as Peter said to his friends, "When there is no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the earth."
